"The Golden Pavilion" is based on the true incident in 1950 when monk Lin Yangxian set fire to the Golden Pavilion. Mizoguchi, a young man who was born with a stutter and was obsessed with the beauty of the Kinkakuji Temple, came to the Kinkakuji Temple to become a monk with the dream of inheriting the position of abbot of the Kinkakuji Temple and owning the Kinkaku Temple. After confirming that he could not achieve his wish, he fantasized about dying with the Kinkakuji in an enemy bombing. The end of the war frustrated his wish. In despair, he decided to find an opportunity to burn the Golden Temple to the ground. By burning down the Golden Temple, Mizoguchi eliminated his own mental demons, his suppressed humanity was released, his vision shackles by phantoms was also expanded, and destruction became the path to rebirth.
