Shanghai Spring and Autumn Period (kelemen Collection)
by Cao Juren
About This Novel
This book was written in 1962 as a column written by the author for Hong Kong's "Cycle Daily". At that time, overseas people were very alienated from the situation in Shanghai. Some young Chinese did not even know where Shanghai was, and called mainlanders outside Guangdong "Shanghaiese". Although the author is not a Shanghainese, he has lived in Shanghai for more than 20 years since arriving in Shanghai in the early 1920s. He also visited the new post-liberation Shanghai many times in the early 1950s. I have not only seen Shanghai, which is called the "adventurer's paradise" by foreigners, but also served on the front line of fire to defend Shanghai during the "August 13" Songhu War. I have also seen with my own eyes the changes in Shanghai after the people took over. He introduced the Spring and Autumn Period of Shanghai to overseas people with his personal experience and detailed historical materials.
