This book was first published in 1925. It is a masterpiece by happy Renlong, a giant in the study of Chinese art history in the West. It is still regarded by Western scholars as the "Bible" for studying ancient Chinese sculptures to this day. The text part mainly introduces the historical evolution of Chinese sculpture from the 5th to the 14th century, as well as the artistic characteristics and representative works of each period. The nearly one thousand pictures in the catalog are arranged according to time and province, which not only focus on the artistic characteristics of sculptures in different regions in the same period, but also present the evolution of styles in the same region in different periods. A considerable part of the Chinese cultural relics collected by these overseas museums, art galleries, antique dealers, and private collectors have disappeared, and some historical sites and cultural relic collections have suffered repeated disasters and have now disappeared from the world, which shows the preciousness of this book.
