Shen Congwen is a giant of modern Chinese literature and a "lyrical humanist". His student Wang Zengqi is also famous among contemporary writers for his unique works, and is known as "China's last scholar-official". Wang Zengqi began to pay attention to Shen Congwen and his works since his boyhood. In 1939, he chose to be admitted to the Southwest Associated University, which was closely related to Shen Congwen's teaching at the Associated University. Shen took care of Wang everywhere in his creation and life, and the teacher-student relationship between the two lasted for nearly half a century.
