About This Novel
"Old Food Notes" is China's first retrospective work that presents home-cooked food in Northeast China in the 1970s in prose form. Every Northeastern person has similar memories of their childhood. Ordinary home-cooked dishes, ordinary washing, cutting, steaming and stewing, the three meals of the four seasons for ordinary people in Northeast China are vividly displayed on the page. It's not polished, it's plain and simple, it's sincere, real and palpable. The plainer the text, the closer it is to real life.
