Live up to the Passing Years and Never Lose the Beauty
by Cui Jianxiu
About This Novel
Stepping on the golden fallen leaves, I walked slowly along the Songhua River embankment. The river water in autumn is like an old oil painting, with a bit more tranquility and clarity, and a bit more thought-provoking depth. I was invited by a magazine in Beijing to interview an octogenarian paper-cutting artist. Since it was still early before the scheduled time, I decided to take a walk by the river first. So, I was pleasantly surprised to meet him who was practicing calligraphy using water instead of ink on the river embankment. Over the years, in many parks or squares in the city, I have occasionally encountered calligraphy enthusiasts carrying buckets and special pens, splashing water as if no one else was watching, and demonstrating their skills in water calligraphy. Occasionally, I will stop to admire it for a while and comment silently.
