About This Novel

This book is a revised version of the poetry collection of the same name published by Taiwanese novelist Luo Yijun in 1995 at his own expense. In the first half, the author takes the image of "abandonment" as the core and condenses a large number of imaginative stories into subtle and tortuous lyric poems. The illusory images and real plots overlap and jump, depicting the end of time and space, desolate situations, fateful sorrow and the feeling of alienation between people and ourselves. He proposes his shocking "abandonment aesthetics" and reversely explores the meaning of existence and the possibility of love. In the second half of the book, "love" is still the theme throughout; however, after more than 20 years, the author is now a middle-aged uncle who is "tired but more tolerant, stumbling forward for the rest of his life without any whims", and his words are more tender and penetrating. The emptiness and panic of youth settled one by one, returning to the dignity and beauty that the world should have had before abandonment.
