Teffy's Memoirs
About This Novel
Perhaps, the era we are facing is indeed as Calvino said: "Reading classic works seems inconsistent with the pace of our lives. Our pace of life cannot bear to give up large chunks of time or space to the leisure of humanists; it is also inconsistent with the elitism in our culture. This elitism can never develop a catalog of classic works to suit our times." Then, just like the desert's desire for water, it is ignoring the classics. In this era, we still have to hold high the encyclopedia of classics and engrave it with another passage of Calvino: "What can be done now is to let each of us invent our ideal classic library; and I would say that half of it should include books that we have read and have benefited us, and others should be books that we intend to read and assume that they will benefit us. We should also give some space to unexpected books and books discovered by chance."
