About This Novel
There were 1,500 British troops carrying British rifles, of which 1,000 were hired Gurkhas. The Gurkhas were not as tall as the British, but they were agile and able to endure hardships, which satisfied the British. This army began to invade China's Tibet in November 1903. The central Qing government that administered Tibet was in its twilight years and was unable to send troops to Tibet to stop the invading British army. As a result, the British army invaded from the Yadong Port on the border of Tibet to Pali Dzong, and then to Gulu, a valley in Tibet. This is March 23, 1904. There is a row of stone walls spanning three kilometers in the Gulu Valley. The walls are about 1.2 Meters high and about 40 to 50 centimeters thick. They are all made of stones. Behind the wall are hundreds of black cow-hair tents, large and small. These are the gathering points for the manor troops sent from each manor in Tibet, referred to as the Tibetan Army.
