The story of "Tender Is the Night" takes place in Europe, but the novel still shows the social life of the "Jazz Age" in the United States. Dick Diver is a young and promising psychiatrist from the American Midwest who conducts pathological research on mental illness in Zurich, Switzerland. He was involved in the treatment of rich girl Nicole Warren, who became mentally ill as a result of incest with her millionaire father. The main content of "Tender Is the Night" introduces strong nostalgia, regret, lost hope, shattered illusions, and split personality. It is a highly autobiographical novel that explores a process of emotional and mental breakdown that is very similar to that experienced by the author.
