Love and Trouble: Alice Walker's Short Stories
by J
About This Novel
The first African-American female writer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature - Alice Walker's first short story collection, published in 1973. This book collects 13 short stories, telling the various experiences of black women in real life, such as marriage and family, race and faith, and how many shackles still cannot restrain their desire to pursue themselves. Through the stories of black women with different personalities and life experiences, Walker presents the survival dilemmas faced by black women in the 20th century and the tenacity to overcome them. He portrays the inner turmoil of women of "our mother's generation" and breaks through stereotypes. It is in sharp contrast to the blind and submissive image of black women prevalent in black national literature at that time. It accumulates spiritual strength for the next generation of black women to change their destiny, marking a major change in black literature. In addition, the short story "Daily Necessities" and other chapters included in the book have been included in African American anthologies many times and are also classics in the history of contemporary literature.
