About This Novel
Looking across the Centipede River Valley from the county seat to Dongshan Liangzi on the opposite side, there is a mechanized farming road that winds along the mountain, connecting the large and small, tall and short camps and stockades of the three communes of Taoziping, Lahegou and Masangping, and then leads from the Ribid Pass over the mountain ridge to Anke District, 80 kilometers away. It makes people feel that the transportation in these places is quite convenient. In fact, when Jiang Bo was teaching here, only on the eve of the busy farming season, when the government would organize agricultural supplies to be sent to the countryside, or after the autumn harvest, would the public grain be put into the warehouse, the road maintenance section would be busy finding villagers to level the road. These temporary "road maintenance workers" received very little wages and did not have a "job certificate", so they regarded the important task of building roads and ensuring smooth traffic as if they were repairing fields and ditches in the production team.
