About This Novel

To be disqualified in the human world is to lose the qualifications to be a human being. This is the last work of Dazai Osamu's life, and it is also his important work. The book is composed of the author's preface, postscript, and three letters of the protagonist Oba Yezo. It describes the protagonist's continuous sinking from adolescence to middle age in order to escape reality. He experiences self-exile, alcoholism, suicide, and numbing himself with drugs, and finally moves towards the tragedy of self-destruction step by step. In the process of self-denial, he expresses his inner depression and desire to be loved... Osamu Dazai cleverly depicts his life and thoughts through the life experiences of the protagonist Ye Zang. This novel has always been regarded as his autobiographical work, and it raises the most real painful issues of being a human being. From the stagnant writing, you can understand the deep pain in his heart. After completing this work, Osamu Dazai finally chose to throw himself into the water to draw the final ending for himself.

I'm sorry for being human

In fact, in Dazai Osamu's heart, Ye Zang has not lost the qualifications to be a human being, but has no qualifications to be a human being. There is rare kindness and sincerity in him, but he cannot be redeemed. After all, the glory of human nature did not illuminate the society at that time, but was swallowed up by endless darkness. The redemption that Ye Zang pursues is the kindness of human nature; but what destroys Ye Zang is the ugliness of human nature.

Today, I can neither be happy nor unhappy.

Today, I can neither be happy nor unhappy. Everything will pass. In the so-called "human world", the only thing I am willing to accept as truth is this sentence: Everything will pass. How sad!

This book is very good, I have read the physical copy. Human nature is inherently evil, so people who are depressed are advised not to read it.

I just came here to mark it first. I know Dazai Osamu from the life of Matsuko being rejected by others, and I know the sentence "Born to be a human being", save it for now, and read it when you have time!

"I" have been in poor health since I was a child and am often sick, so I spend most of my time in bed. When lying on the bed, "I" think these beddings are the most boring decoration. But it was only when I was in my twenties that I realized how practical these things were.
