About This Novel
Stalin extremely advocated the absolute power of the individual. In order to maintain his personal dictatorship and eliminate political opponents, from the mid-1930s to the late 1930s, he launched a large-scale purge campaign in the Soviet Union, which later turned into a bloody massacre. Thousands of leaders and key members of the Soviet party's military, political and social groups were arrested and killed with or without trial. Stalin's brutal purges caused widespread leadership gaps and popular confusion in the Soviet Union, which directly led to the rout of the Soviet Red Army in the early days of World War II. In just a few weeks, hundreds of thousands of Soviet Red Army soldiers became prisoners of war in Nazi Germany. Stalin's purges brought unspeakable disasters to the Soviet people. The prelude to Stalin's purges was the murder of Kirov.
