About This Novel
The novel begins with the "Edict to Fill Sichuan" issued by Emperor Kangxi when Sichuan was desolate. It takes the protagonist Ning, who migrates from Fujian to Sichuan, and encounters a flying man to steal his son as a clue. It takes Rongchang County, a small town in eastern Sichuan, as the main scene, and vividly describes the ups and downs of immigrants to Sichuan. The whole novel runs through the shocking life and death love between Ning Yi and the indigenous gentry Zhao Shulin, and the warrior Chang Weihan in western Fujian. It vividly describes the good and evil mentality of various characters such as bandits, actors, tribesmen, merchants, officials, and royal families. The various hardships of life and the hardships of starting a business interpret the tragedy and comedy of human beings with great sorrow and regret. The filling of Sichuan, the crossing of Guandong, the west entrance, and the voyage to Nanyang were major events in the history of Chinese immigration.
