About This Novel
This is a novel with the background of the era of college entrance examination and the theme of peasant children studying hard and jumping through the dragon gate. The novel is set in a remote mountain village in Yunnan. It tells the story of villagers who hope that their children can go to college and fly out of the poor valleys to take root and flourish in the big cities. They struggle hard on a road toward the sky, dreaming of one day running out of poverty: they have an uncompromising struggle for the college entrance examination, and they have science fiction dreams of going to the sky and entering the water. Reading and taking exams are the only ways for them to change their identities and destiny. Reality and ideals blend, suffering and sunshine coexist. The sky in the chaff is small and big, and the fate of the people at the bottom is full of reality. Inside and outside the poor family, grievances and resentments are intertwined; between warmth and coldness, one can only know oneself. The author strives to paint a picture of rural students who persevere in life.
