About This Novel
"Water of Life" includes five outstanding novellas in Mongolian literary creation since the founding of the People's Republic of China: "The Ridge of Alimas", "Hometown of Hailiujun", "Meteor Following the Ethnic Group", "Egma" and "Water of Life". "The Ridge of Alimas" is a work of magical realism. The Ridge of Alimas is the only way to the Alatanbozhihe Village, and under the hillside is the underworld where the ghosts of the dead are wandering, and are inextricably linked to the Alatanbozhihe Village. The gruesome accidents on the slopes of Alimas and the unbelievable things in Alatanbozhih Village are all related to the ghosts of the underworld. The mature black fox was hunted and killed, bringing a devastating outcome to the hunters in Alatanbozhihe Village. This novel is regarded by academic circles as the pioneering work of contemporary Mongolian magical realism. "Agma" tells the story of several Mongolian college students who have just stepped out of campus. They face a complex social environment and ruthless competition for survival, and their friendship, love, and career face great challenges and choices. "Fountain of Life" tells the story of Gangga, a young camel herder, who despite his mother's opposition and lover's suspicion, enthusiastically rescues Tongga, a young woman who is shunned by society and her family because she is suffering from AIDS in the entertainment industry.
