About This Novel

It describes the Wu'an merchant gang represented by Xu Jingxiu, which made silk in the south and medicinal materials in the north. It developed into the largest merchant gang in Henan in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and dominated the Chinese business community for hundreds of years. "Self-Made" mainly describes how Xu Jingxiu had to run away from home with his wife because of a mistake he made when he was young. In order to support his family, he started from scratch, opened up business routes, and gradually developed a small business into a large business name almost all over the country.
