About This Novel

Li Peifu, the author of "Book of Life", is accustomed to starting from the hinterland of the Central Plains culture and writing about the prosperity and decline of the land on the plains and the various situations of life on it. In his works, the countryside and the city, history and reality, ideals and desires are juxtaposed, and he tries to explore the relationship between the times and people's destiny. "Book of Life" not only describes the living conditions of villagers who catered to, refused, or drifted away during the political movements in the second half of the twentieth century, but also describes how villagers "escaped" from the countryside and persisted and lost in the face of the temptation of materialistic cities. Underlying all the narratives are the folk tales and legends inherited from the ancient countryside. Here, the deep-rooted consciousness passed down from generation to generation among the people has been implanted in the soul memory of the "city people" who "walk with the land on their backs", providing a certain sense of feedback and nourishment for the "city people" who are confused and trapped in the face of new values.

Comprehensive and detailed.

How should I put it? I don't know if it's because I haven't read enough or something. This book really touches people's hearts. Perhaps it is difficult for us to meet the prototype of every character in the book, but this book really writes the Chinese people of the past fifty years to the core. The part about Sister Chong is really hard not to make people cry. Such changes in human nature are really only seen in China.

The past really can never go back, just like I often think of the appearance of my hometown more than ten years ago.

There is a camel in the middle saying that China has 1.3 Billion people. I guess there were no 1.3 Billion people in that era! I don't know if the author reads the comments.

Everyone carries their own history, or privacy. There are times when I can't explain clearly. Maybe just one thought can change a person's life.

Luo Guodong was too anxious to calm down and reflect on himself, so he used force blindly. As a result, he used too much force and destroyed the foundation he had built. If he had listened to Wu Zhipeng's advice, he would not have committed suicide by jumping off the building.
