In the spring of 1938, Shanghai and Nanjing had fallen one after another. Her husband fought bravely on the battlefield, but Anli was forced to stay at home on Gulangyu Island. While waiting for her husband to come home, she must do everything possible to take care of and protect her mother, mother-in-law, daughter and upcoming son. Gulangyu Island gradually turned into an isolated island, and people fled one after another, including Anli's teacher, but Anli chose to stay. She hid her family's gold and stored enough food, waiting for the day when Gulangyu Island fell into the clutches of the Japanese invaders.
