About This Novel
The sketches are drawn in plain white, depicting the skeleton of the craftsman, showing the diverse appearance of all living beings. Write history through food and writing, recreating the customs of Peking city around 1928. Liu Tianlu, the owner of Baizhifang's "Beef Liu", has recruited a new waiter named Cui Xi. Zhao Botao, the big shopkeeper of Jinjie Yinxiang, encounters Forsythia, a girl with superb craftsmanship. Two seemingly unrelated stories intertwined into a long and complicated spectrum of living beings, from the destruction of the last royal palace to the various aspects of life in the Peking city, including prosperity, poverty, happiness, helplessness, and persistence on the paper, with home and dreams running through it. The long-sung "most fragrant" is not only Tianlu's eternal pursuit when he was framed and imprisoned, but also the theme of the competition between Forsythia's father's skills. Over the years, it has become a foreshadowing of the rift between a pair of lovers.
