About This Novel

"Walking toward the Sun" is a long documentary novel based on the personal experience of Comrade Han Lei (1920-2021), the former deputy governor of the People's Bank of China and the former president of the Agricultural Bank of China. It mainly tells the story of the protagonist Han Yutian who returned from Vietnam to join the revolution in the early days of the Anti-Japanese War. Han Yutian, whose ancestral home is Nanhai, Guangdong, was born into a wealthy businessman family in Haiphong, Vietnam. At the age of 17, he embarked on a journey to return to his country to fight against Japan with a patriotic heart. At Shanbei Public School, Han Yutian's spirit was baptized and he officially became a glorious Communist Party member. During the war of resistance against Japan, Han Yutian was not only an outstanding soldier, but also became one of the first batch of financial talents trained by the Communist Party of China. He was responsible for important work at the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Bank and the North China Bank. After the founding of New China, Han Yutian became a member of the construction army of the People's Bank of China and embarked on a new journey as a red banker.
