The Shaanxi-Gansu border revolutionary base area was the first revolutionary base area established in the northwest region by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Liu Zhidan and Xi Zhongxun in the early 20th century. It provided the Party Central Committee and the Red Army with a foothold for the Long March and the starting point for the Anti-Japanese War. However, the "Left" opportunists imprisoned them on various trumped-up charges. At the same time, many middle- and senior-level cadres above the military camp level and local county level level were implicated and arrested, and more than 200 of them were buried alive and killed. At this very dangerous and critical period, Mao Zedong and the Party Central Committee led the Red Front Army to northern Shaanxi, promptly corrected the mistakes of northern Shaanxi and saved the crisis in northern Shaanxi.
