About This Novel
The novel is based on the life of the lower class civilians in Dashilan, old Beijing. From the perspective of Cai Chaowu, the book tells the story of his mother, Jin Feng, who was born in Linfen Guild Hall, Shanxi, Dashilar, and her unexpected acquaintance with her father, Cai Xin, who first came to Dashilan to open a pig shop from Linfen, and eventually got married. Based on the two elders' memories of history, Cai Chaowu narrates in detail the story of the struggles of several generations of ancestors named Cai in Linfen Guild Hall, Shanxi.
