Things Went from Bad to Worse (a 20th Century Classic)
About This Novel
After stepping out of college, the protagonist Charles Lambley in "From Worst to Worst" felt at a loss and with a bleak future in the rapidly changing society after the war. He tried to rebel against traditional society, establish and maintain himself, vowed to get rid of the control of money and status, and refused the convenience of climbing up that education might provide. In the end, he painfully discovered that all his efforts to break through the trap were in vain, and he had fallen to the bottom of society. His soul and body were on the verge of destruction, and the things he had desperately resisted and rejected were strongly tempting him. The novel presents readers with a true picture of British society at that time.
