About This Novel
Time always has only one direction. Time does not flow back, and gradually some migratory birds, like time, no longer fly back to their old nests. "The Weaving Nest" is a companion piece to Xixi's autobiographical novel "Migratory Birds". Following "Migratory Birds", Xixi's family story is continued in "Weaver's Nest". The novel tells the story of a family's hard and tenacious life of helping each other in the unfamiliar new environment of Hong Kong. It's also a love story, but in a broader sense. The author narrates in the tone of "Sister Susu" and "Sister Yanyan" respectively, and weaves in the autobiographical novel written by her mother in the 1960s and the family letters from the second aunt in the Mainland, using four different female perspectives to delicately tell the family story between two generations of relatives. Relatives who have wandered around the world live their own lives after being separated, and then build a new nest and start a family. From the 1950s to the 1990s, the changes in Hong Kong history can also be seen in the family life of ordinary citizens.
