About This Novel

The novel describes the entire process of land reform in a village named Yuanmaotun in Northeast China from 1946 to 1947. In the first part, Zhao Yulin leads the farmers to fight against the bully landlord Han Laoliu. Later, Zhao Yulin died heroically in the suppression of bandits. The second part writes that one year later, Captain Xiao led the work team to enter Yuanmao Tun again to reverse the repeated unfavorable situation. Lord Guo Quanhai led the peasants to continue Zhao Yulin's unfinished business, eliminate traitors and anti-traitors and fight against the landlord Du Shanren, consolidate the fruits of victory, and take the lead in joining the People's Liberation Army and fighting south. This novel won the third prize of the 1951 Stalin Literature Prize.
