About This Novel
Living in the unit opposite me were two biological sisters, one named Yamamoto and the other Shibata. Yamamoto is their maiden name. The younger sister got married and took the Shibata surname from her husband's family. After she left her husband's family, she never changed it. My sister has never been married, and she still bears her maiden name. She is an old girl waiting to be married. In this way, the names marked on their mailboxes became Yamamoto Koko and Shibata Rongko. "Ke" and "Rong" are not commonly used words in Japanese. Once I asked them their names, they said they were given their names by their father, who was a Chinese language teacher in middle school before the war.
