About This Novel

"The Decameron" is the first realist masterpiece in the history of European literature. The work begins with a prologue, describing what happened to ten young men and women when they took refuge in a villa in the countryside against the backdrop of the plague in Florence. Each of the ten young people told a story every day, and a total of one hundred stories were told in ten days, hence the name "The Decameron". Each story is of different lengths and all-inclusive in content, and humanistic thought is the main thread running through the book. According to Boccaccio, the stories in the Decameron are all well-founded. The work describes and praises life in this world, praises love as a noble source of wisdom, praises the value of free love, and affirms people's intelligence and wisdom. The work also exposes the cruelty of feudal emperors, the sins of the Christian church, the hypocrisy of priests and nuns, etc.

Whether it is Western culture or Chinese tradition, they have different origins and each has its own characteristics. Maybe your characteristics are my strengths, and my strengths are your weaknesses. Right and wrong are always relative. Objectively speaking, there is no advantage or disadvantage, but the environment is different.

People may cooperate with each other to hunt prey, but once something related to interests occurs, such as allocating prey and competing for territory, what was originally collaboration turns into a cruel competition for interests. No one has taught them what good and evil are, and of course they don't know it themselves, so I think good and evil are two aspects that humans have.

There is selfishness and despicable content in everyone's nature, so he cannot live without the regulation, restraint, deterrence, and protection of the law in his daily life. Without this condition, it is impossible to live a stable life relying only on the moral cultivation of one's conscious efforts.

I just don't know much about the history and culture, so the reading is less interesting than I imagined.
