About This Novel

This book is a novel by Japanese novelist Kawakami Mieiko. It tells the story of four women living at the bottom of society who came together to form a new "family" because of shared housing. They rely on each other and warm each other, but in order to survive, they use and dominate each other, sinking deeper and deeper into the quagmire of poverty, and finally complete the story of redemption through everyone's efforts and inspirational growth.
