About This Novel
In 1947, the Alsatian girl Mathilde followed her Moroccan husband to the "land of the other". Here, she realizes that escape and running away are just another abyss, and she will always be just an outsider, a woman, and a wife. But even so, facing strangeness, poverty, violence and depression, she will eventually live again and again. "War, War, War" is a new biographical novel by Leila Slimani, winner of the Goncourt Literary Prize. It is one of her "Land of the Other Trilogy" that writes about the true fate of three generations of women in the family. The novel is set against the backdrop of the drastic changes in social life in French Morocco after World War II. It tells the story of a country in deep political identity crisis, an interracial mixed-race family, and how an exhausted woman finds her place in a turbulent world.
