The novel describes a story that took place in a rural area in Taiyue Mountain during the early days of reform and opening up. Land is the main resource that rural farmers rely on for survival. At the critical juncture of social change, when facing the land that is closely related to farmers, characters with various personalities showed a variety of different attitudes, which also constituted a panoramic custom painting of the village's joint production contract. The novel attempts to present a panoramic view of rural social conditions and life in the early 1980s.
