About This Novel
The work uses a combination of forward narration and flashback to tell the story of standing on this shore and looking at the other shore from a distance, following the clues of the protagonist's memories. The protagonist Xiaoyu is a young man in a small town in southern Anhui. He is sensitive, delicate, kind and elegant. The work tells his experience through the memories of "I": Xiaoyu lives peacefully with his companions in the small town, but has a chivalrous heart, yearns for freedom, worships heroes, becomes a spiritual leader among his peers, and eventually becomes a legendary figure that is passed down from mouth to mouth. When Xiaoyu looked back, he showed the deeds of his ancestors who resisted the white terror and sacrificed their lives heroically during the guerrilla activities in southern Anhui in the Huangshan area.
