About This Novel
She doesn't answer the phone when she's resting at home. She always lets the answering machine speak, using her fairly standard English: This is Yaquin and Yu Fang, I'm sorry, we can't answer because we have something to do, please leave a message... Although she has nothing to do. Of course, sometimes she has to make some chocolate chip cookies for her girls, or scrub down the already pristine stairs. Only in those moments does she think of herself. Yu Fang has just turned thirty-five. Once she was walking through a shopping mall and saw herself in the store mirror and felt that she was very old. Although her Canadian colleagues always say that she still looks like a girl, she knows that she is old at heart. She didn't walk so slowly before, and her eyes weren't so glazed over. It was a typical Canadian winter afternoon.
