About This Novel

This book was first published in 1925. Fitzgerald, who was already a best-selling author at the time, was determined to write a novel that was completely different from any previous works and could be "left in a sincere and glorious world." The story of "The Great Gatsby (Chinese-English)" edited by F. S. Fitzgerald takes place after the First World War. The protagonist Gatsby was originally a down and out poor boy who traveled from the Midwest to the East of the United States and transformed into a mysterious tycoon who became famous overnight and filled the house with customers. Celebrities and distinguished guests came to his mansion in an endless stream, but in private they treated him with indifference and slanderous remarks. The woman he had been waiting for so long and who was already married to a noble lady only regarded him as the object of his spiritual cheating after marriage. Nick, the narrator of this book, watches Gatsby strive to pursue the corrupt and disgusting vanity, but still remains in awe of his inner innocence.

Gatsby's greatness lies in his ability to reverse his destiny, his persistence in maintaining his original intention, and his tolerance and responsibility for his loved ones. I wish those guests at the ball, Daisy he loved, and his colleagues could show up at the funeral. The desolate ending makes people feel sad and cold.

I was amazed when I saw the opening chapter. Not everyone in this world has the advantages you have. Let us keep a tolerant heart whenever we want to criticize others.

Why can't I meet a man like Gatsby? If I were Daisy, I would have run away with him long ago! But you are not Daisy, and he is not Gatsby.

Gatsby made a fortune, but he still had a low-level consumption concept. However, he is indeed fascinating.

What Gatsby loves is not Daisy, but the state of life that Daisy represents. Tom loves himself. Daisy loves vanity. Everyone lies. He was chasing a dream, in which many people appeared, but when he finally woke up from the dream, he was still sleeping there, alone.

That magical brilliance is not based on Gatsby's own radiance. Such writing is just to hope that readers will realize the difficulty of this brilliance and understand why the protagonist is "amazing".
