About This Novel

This book is the earliest novel written by Jane Austen, a brilliant satirical comedy. Catherine, the daughter of a country priest who is obsessed with gothic horror novels, sometimes regards real life as a virtual world in legendary stories. She was taken to the social scene in Bath to see the world, and made friends with the hypocritical Thorpe brothers and sisters. After falling in love at first sight with the upright and handsome rich boy Henry, she was warmly invited by Henry's father, Admiral Tierney, to visit his home. In the deep, ancient house of Northanger Abbey, Catherine's mind was filled with horrific scenes from horror novels, and she staged scenes of ridiculous adventures. Admiral Tierney, who disliked poverty and loved wealth, listened to Thorpe's slander, went against his promise, and coldly issued an expulsion order for Catherine. However, the loyalty of love finally defeated the villain's lies: the church bells rang and everyone smiled.
