About This Novel

This is the first full-length novel created using the stream-of-consciousness technique in China. The novel takes Yu Erlong, the party committee secretary and director of a large military industrial power plant, to return to his hometown of Shihu after more than 30 years to find the murderer who assassinated his wife Lu Hua. Through his three days and two nights of experience, knowledge and memories, it condenses his 40-year struggle life from the Anti-Japanese War, the Liberation War, the 17 years after the founding of the People's Republic of China to the Cultural Revolution and the crushing of the "Gang of Four". It focuses on the guerrilla life from 1937 to 1947 and the struggle during the ten years of turmoil.
