About This Novel

More than a hundred years ago, under the impact of reinforced concrete buildings, traditional Chinese wooden structures, represented by the Xiangshan Gang, which had been dominant for thousands of years, began to decline. With this as the background, the novel describes the rise and fall of a family workshop, reflecting the social changes, industry changes and the resulting individual destiny during this period. The story consists of two clues. One is the story between the left-behind women represented by Huang Shuigu, and the other is centered on the traditional craftsmanship represented by Mei Chen and Zhu Hongsheng and the new craftsmanship represented by Jiang Dalin and their social relations. The two lines are intertwined, and the tragedy ends in the same place.
