Interview Notes: First-hand Information from Personal Visits to the Battlefield
by Cao Juren
About This Novel
The interview series records Mr. Cao Juren's interview experience and what he saw and heard from the Anti-Japanese War to the Civil War, as well as his complicated emotions in the great changes of the times. "The Interview" begins with the Sino-Japanese disputes after Japan's Meiji Restoration. It focuses on the deeds of September 18th, the Battle of Songhu, the July 7th Incident, and the fall of Nanjing. It is exactly the same as the eighth battlefield narrated in "The Interview". Mr. Cao Juren is committed to making it a people's war history. He went to the battlefield in person and collected hand-made materials, including enemy documents, diaries, prisoner confessions, and official documents. He also consulted reports and criticisms from friendly people, and studied the works of experts. The book consists of three parts: an introduction, the prelude to Japan's war of aggression, and the first page of the all-out war of resistance. It narrates the war without overdoing it, and analyzes the motivations behind the war. The information is rich and detailed, making one feel like one is in that era filled with gunpowder. Whether he wins or loses, he just has to make peace with the enemy. As the author said, this book can be said to be a powerful annotation of Chiang Kai-shek's words.
