About This Novel
General Zhang Zizhong was a tiger general and famous general on the front battlefield of China's Anti-Japanese War. In March 1933, he led his troops into the Battle of Xifengkou, which marked the beginning of the Great Wall Anti-Japanese War. Since the beginning of the All-out Anti-Japanese War, General Zhang fought the Japanese army in Feishui, Linyi, Xuzhou, and Suizao. He won many battles and became more courageous as he fought, until he died in a pumpkin shop in Yicheng, Hubei Province. General Zhang Zizhong was the first person to sacrifice his life for the country as the commander-in-chief of the General Army during the Chinese Anti-Japanese War. He was also the highest-ranking general in the anti-fascist camp in World War II who died on the battlefield. After learning of Zhang's death, Chiang Kai-shek sent a telegram to the Fifth War Zone to retrieve Zhang's body at all costs and transport it back to Chongqing. The Nationalist Government issued a state funeral order, and Chiang Kai-shek personally officiated. Feng Yuxiang wrote the inscription "Xin Chen will never die".
