About This Novel
"The Story of the Broad Sword" was created in 1975 and consists of two parts and three volumes. This is the only full-length novel in China that describes the Anti-Japanese War in the Northern Shandong Plain. The author Guo Qingcheng uses a realistic writing style rooted in the countryside and a simple and vigorous style derived from traditional Chinese novels to extol the heroic spirit and historical merits of the people of the Northern Shandong Plain in the Anti-Japanese War. The work gained widespread influence as soon as it was published and became an indelible reading memory for a generation. The book has distinctive characteristics of the times, and at the same time, it fully reflects the literary talent, historical values and aesthetic pursuits of the writers of that generation.

The second part is somewhat different from the first part in terms of characters. In the first part, Zhigang is the eldest son, the grandson of Chang Mingyi, who was adopted by the Tuoliang family in Qinhaicheng. But in the second part, he became the third child, and the Chang family basically didn't mention it. Zhiyong was originally the third child, but in the second film he became the eldest, taking over Zhigang's role, including his romance with Qin Wanglan, and the adoption relationship was not mentioned.
