About This Novel
This book uses the various situations after the plague in Oran, a city in Algeria, to express the extreme life of people in the epidemic city, the "suffocation" they felt and the "atmosphere of threat and exile" they experienced. It successfully created a great myth of a person who resists evil and whose strengths overcome weaknesses. The male protagonist, Dr. Rieux, represents the warmth of human nature. He proves with his hard work and tenacity that in the game against the plague and the game against life, what a person can win is nothing more than knowledge and memory. Humanity must have hope. Without hope, there is no peace.
