The protagonist of the novel is Zhou Rushui, who returned from studying in Japan. At this time, Zhou Rushui received a letter from his father, asking him to go back and become an official. The weak Zhou Rushui finally rejected Zhang Ruolan's love, but he did not have the courage to go home.
