Farmer Germain became a widower at the age of twenty-eight with three children. Being solemn and honest, he still missed his deceased wife, but his father-in-law, out of reality and reason, persuaded him to go on a blind date with a widow in a neighboring village. Neighbor Germain took his daughter, Marie, who was only sixteen years old, to work near a neighboring village. On the way, Germain's naughty and cute son suddenly appeared and insisted on joining. Together, they traveled through the "Magic Swamp" that they must pass through to reach the neighboring village. The extraordinary experiences during the journey allowed Germain to fully understand the intelligence, stability, and kindness of little Marie.
