About This Novel
More than 400 years ago, under the Changbai Mountains in the Northeast and on the vast land of the Songliao Plain, many Jurchen (ancestors of the Manchu) tribal kingdoms lived. There were mainly four tribes, Yehe, Hada, Wula, and Huifa. From the Yuan Dynasty to the early Ming Dynasty, these tribes mainly lived in the vast area of the lower reaches of the Songhua River. The lower reaches of the Songhua River were called Haixi River in ancient times, so they were called Haixi Jurchens in history. And because their ancestors jointly originated from the Hulan River Basin north of today's Harbin City, the Haixi Jurchens are also called the Hu Lun (a homophonic pronunciation of Hu Lan). They are also called the Hu Lun Kingdom. In the Hun River Basin (Liaoning Province) southeast of the Haixi Jurchens, there is also a relatively powerful Jurchen tribal kingdom called Jianzhou. The leader of Jianzhou was Nurhachi, the founder of the Qing Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, they were affiliated with the Ming Dynasty. The imperial court established the Liaodong Nurgan Command Division (equivalent to today's Grand Military Region) in the Northeast to manage the Jurchens in the Northeast.
