About This Novel
Due to my work relationship, I have been constantly inspecting or visiting mountainous areas in Licheng, Pingshun, Huguan, and Changzhi in the past few years, hoping to discover problems, experiences, and patterns in the modernization process of mountainous areas. This is a forward-looking matter, involving many issues and uncertainties. It is difficult to find an analytical framework that can integrate various issues. However, in the confusion, unexpected discoveries were made. These places have the footprints of Mr. Zhao Shuli back then. From his birth and work to his return to his hometown after taking a temporary job, most of this writer's life was buried in the loess of Shangdang Mountain. At that time, Mr. Zhao Shuli's son, Mr. Zhao Erhu, revisited Hengling Village in Zuoquan County and discovered that Zhao Shuli had participated in the investigation of a murder case in this small village. This murder case may be related to the creation of "Xiao Erhei's Marriage" and is therefore considered to be the prototype of the novel.
