The novella "Joyful Funeral" by Lyudmila Ulitskaya, a famous contemporary Russian writer, was published by the author in 1997. The book was shortlisted for the Russian Booker Prize for Literature. In a stuffy apartment in New York, a group of Russian Jewish immigrants gathered at the death bed of an artist named Alik. Alik was a charismatic character and people liked him.
