Cherry Street
by Wang Shuping
About This Novel
"Cherry Street" is an urban novel with a postmodern artistic style, showing certain postmodern creative styles and artistic tendencies, such as fragmentation, uncertainty, secularization, irony, etc. The traditional grand narrative is deconstructed and carefully reconstructed. The characters in the article examine, deconstruct and reconstruct the common living environment of "small towns" with a post-modern perspective, and discover the connotation and meaning of backwardness and stagnation, life and survival, consumption and pursuit hidden in it. The characters in small towns are not ants. They have their own philosophy of survival and way of thinking, and have a different mental state from people in big cities: they are stupid and cunning; they are ordinary and extraordinary; they are small and great. Those daily experiences and events in daily life that seem to be fragmented and trivial form more or less a part of past history (micro-history).
