About This Novel
This is a novel that describes the period from the end of the Qing Dynasty to the restoration of Guandong. It is set in a county near Qingma Lake in the Sanzhao region and describes the stories that happened in this black land during the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, the Puppet Manchukuo State, and the restoration period. There are refugees from Guandong, station workers, beards, folk artists trumpet makers, Northeastern Army anti-Japanese officers and civilian anti-Japanese comrades. There are not only Northeastern Army officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the national war of resistance during the national crisis, but also six local cadres sent by our party from Guanzhong who died during the rebellion of county magistrate Peng Shilong due to the Kuomintang-Communist struggle for power during the period of liberation. The novel takes the Qiao family and the Zou family as the main lines, describing the rise and fall of three generations of the two families in different historical eras, showing vivid and distinctive characters. The Qiao family has the great landowner Qiao Huanzhang as the main character, which highlights the heroic national integrity of the Guandong people who are hard-working and upholding morality and righteousness for the nation. Qiao Shouqian is the eldest son of the Qiao family and a major battalion commander of the Northeast Army. When the Northeast Anti-Japanese War broke out, he did not hesitate to sacrifice his life for justice. The Zou family takes the landowner Zou Shoutian as the main character, and describes how he traveled to Guandong with his father to accumulate family property. He wanted to fight with the Qiao family on the property and real estate, and even became a fake security chief. Zou Xinhua, the son of his eldest wife, disobeyed his father and took the revolutionary path, becoming the county's democracy movement minister. In addition, it also describes the fate of the local Mongolian Bao Bawanye and his sworn brother Gao Mantang who accompanied Qiao Huanzhang on his journey to Guandong. The language of the novel is very Guandong style and flavor.
