About This Novel
Erxiang's face was lost. If you lose face, you will lose it, but you can't kill anyone. For Erxiang, it would be better to die. In his hometown of Malandian, Erxiang was a respectable man, clever and handy, a carpenter and bricklayer, a master at repairing motor vehicles, and good at chess. He was fair-minded and liked to speak fair. He loved to laugh and joke, and he was familiar with his work. His big eyes smiled, and there was a layer of wrinkles on both sides of his high bridge of nose. Some people said that Erxiang didn't need to light a fire at home, so he made a pot of cold water boil by telling a joke. Another thing is that he always likes to hunt for wild food when he has nothing to do. He dares to eat grasshoppers, silkworm chrysalises, bees, and black toads. If there were maggots in someone's sauce jar, he would fish them out as a good thing and fry them in oil to drink. Early in the morning, who would have heard the clanking of the carriage's planks all the way away, and would surely have seen him driving the donkey carriage speeding past. If he was not working in the fields, he would probably be hunting for wild food.
